While many people in the federal government are planning for retirement, there is a new generation of employees that can't be forgotten. Most families today consist of two working parents. As a mother, it is hard enough to return to work leaving your child in the care of someone else, but it is even worse not being able to take care of one's own medical recovery needs post-delivery because the federal government doesn't offer paid Parental Leave. There are many benefits that come with working for the Federal Government, but I think OPM should stand behind the Parental Leave Act to improve their work/family life and to secure the next generation willing to stick with OPM as a career move.
