Establish a Community Manager Position at OPM

Community = the citizens who are looking for federal jobs + the federal employees who need to fill jobs + the OPM'ers who are responsible for making the process work on a country-level scale. The work of the latter can be shared between OPM and other agencies' experts, but someone with a collegial, competent presence has to manage the community. I think that person should be based at OPM. A good model for how this could... more »

Streamline hiring

I know many young, bright and eager individuals who are interested in becoming public servants. However the KSA's are difficult to understand and the online process of filling out an application is way too cumbersome! Even when a person labors and gets the application in they never hear anything back. The entire process is frustrating, impersonal, lacks good manners etc etc. The result is a lot of talent is going... more »

Help support work/family life with the Parental Leave Act HR 626

While many people in the federal government are planning for retirement, there is a new generation of employees that can't be forgotten. Most families today consist of two working parents. As a mother, it is hard enough to return to work leaving your child in the care of someone else, but it is even worse not being able to take care of one's own medical recovery needs post-delivery because the federal government doesn't... more »

Baby-boomer/veteran participation...

I would like to participate in working with other veterans of my age or younger in getting them properly acclimated again to to civilian life. This could be in the capacity of an employed position or volunteering in the Boston Massachusetts area. Many times those who carry the weight of the U.S. on their shoulders are forgotten after returning home unless they have personal connections. To many are left to deal with... more »

NSPS Pay conversion to original GS pay scale

When NSPS employees who performed well so that their current pay is above the GS step 10 level go back to the original GS pay scale, a new one should be created. This should be similar to the different pay scales for computer people and nuclear engineers.

NSPS performing employees should not be penalized by 50% of their Jan pay increases.

Disruptive Technologies: A Holistic, Pragmatic Approach

New technologies are emerging at a faster pace than Agencies can swallow. The rate of obsolescence outpaces the rate of change.

Despite the new technology flood, Agencies lack a strategy to on-board these disruptions. As a result, they often react, flounder, or simply ignore them.

We can solve these problems in four major areas of practice:

Leadership... more »

PENSION

I THINK OPM SHOULD HIRE ADDITIONAL PERSONNEL TO DISPENSE A RETIREE'S PENSION .

IT HAS BEEN FIVE AND A HALF MONTHS AND STILL NO PENSION. OH SURE THEY SEND YOU A SMALL AMOUNT AND EXPECT A PERSON TO LIVE OFF OF IT. THEY SEND ME A WHOPPING $714.00 A MONTH, THAT'S ABOUT $170.00 A WEEK.THAT IS REALLY NICE OF THEM.
I CALL OPM AND RECEIVE THE SAME RUNAROUND THAT I NOW HAVE A CASE WORKER, BULL!!!
I WONDER IF THEY COULD LIVE... more »

Shareable E-Learning

As most of our agencies (Federal, State and Local) suffer drastic cuts to funding, one of the first things to be eliminated is training. Unfortunately, the elimination of these essential services not only brings down employee morale, but also also exposes many of our agencies to huge liabilities.

With technological advances in e-learning technology and the standardization of delivery methods (thanks to DoD and ADL's... more »

Strategic Plan for Diversity and Inclusion

I've heard that OPM is working on developing a diversity and inclusion strategic plan for the federal government, and that representatives from several federal agenices are involved. I would like to suggest that involvement in that effort be expanded to include people outside the government (for example: Shirley Davis, Director of Diversity Initiatives at the Society for Human Resources Management). Also, I'd like to... more »

Increase Collaboration B/W Job Seekers & Federal Recruiters

I would encourage OPM to leverage existing or create new collaboration vehicles to increase collaboration between job seekers and federal recruiters.

Often the two groups are very disconnected although there is basic contact information (email/phone number) on job descriptions. Through collaboration, some of the same questions can be answered once and create repositories of knowledge.

Consider Field Activities

The OPM website hosts a lot of great information about approved programs. But when new program ideas are being considered, it is typically worked through the departments and agencies within the Washington, DC area. However, many of those departments and agencies have organizations/employees in field sites and information and solicitation of ideas rarely is requested or shared with those units. Similarly, the FEBs and... more »
